This class will cover the following topics:
*Why Breastfeed: We will discuss the benefits of breastfeeding for both mom, baby and family.
*How Your Body Makes Milk: We will discuss the anatomy and physiology of breastfeeding so you understand the process of lactation and how to support your body’s natural ability.
*Latching and Positioning: We will discuss the elements of a good latch and troubleshooting latch issues. Options for breastfeeding positions will also be covered.
*Normal Newborn Behavior: How to spot potential issues based on baby’s behavior and cues.
*Feeding Patterns: We will discuss feeding on demand and all of the variations of normal in a baby’s feeding patterns.
*Overcoming Challenges: Common challenges and solutions will be discussed(tongue tie, mastitis, low supply, over supply, etc.) as well as when to reach out for help and support.
*Returning to Work/School and Being Away From Baby: An overview of pumping and milk storage.
Please feel free to bring a partner or support person with you. Also, it is fine to bring a snack and a drink. Class may run a little longer if there are extra questions.
